The Kalamazoo Writing Circle is currently closed to new members. Opportunities to become a member open up every year in the fall.

To get updates on membership opportunities, please fill out the Google form we created for the Anthology 2026 project and select the option to receive membership updates. We look forward to hearing from you!

Get Membership Updates

How Membership Works

Becoming a member of the Kalamazoo Writing Circle is currently a 3-step process. Because we're a critique circle that focuses on one work each week, it's important to us that potential members take the time to feel out our values and the constructive culture of workshop before deciding to commit.

Prospective Membership

When then KWC opens up to new members in the fall, join us at one of our open workshops or prospective member events. We'd love to get to know you and what you hope to get out of the group!

Attend Fall Workshops

At first, we ask that you only participate as someone giving critique, instead of receiving it. We also ask that you attend fairly consistently; it never feels good when members don't show up to workshop your piece, but you've showed up to workshop theirs.

Formalize Membership

After you've come to enough workshops to get a feel for the flow, then we'll give you a Membership Agreements form, outlining the KWC's commitment to mutual respect. Once you sign, you'll formally be inducted as a KWC member and gain access to all of our community resources!
